What it does
Press against the disc to slow the wheel. Fitted on disc brakes, usually at the front.
Signs it needs replacing
- Squealing or grinding when braking
- Longer stopping distance
- Pad material thinner than about 3 mm
What to tell the shop
- Vehicle make, model and model year
- Engine size, and whether it is manual or automatic
- The number printed on the old part, or a photo of it
- Whether you want genuine, OEM or a local replacement
